CHRONICLES OF AN NYSC MEMBER"CORPER" PART 1

Image
So, after being postponed like four freaking times, the National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) camp was eventually confirmed to hold on the 27th of April 2016. Alas, i could finally tell people who doubted if i actually did graduated, that i was off to camp. i'd already bought my things about 2 months before so i was fully prepared and eager to get to camp . In my mind i thought camp was going to be fun, filled with a lot of flexing and partying (at least that was what i was told) but my case was quite different from the assumed norm. Maybe it was just me because most of my co-corp members all said they had fun. It had to definitely be just me because i really didn't catch much fun in camp.                    I resumed at the issele uku orientation camp in delta state, a day ahead of the official resumption date, guess i was too eager and so were many other people because i met a crowd of similar people all waiting to be addre...

THE NIGERIAN RACISM/TRIBALISM

Image
In the society we live in today, people hardly believe an African American man can be racist, let alone an African man. But i beg to disagree, in Africa alone we practice a form of racism that is quite unique. This form of unique racism goes by many names from tribalism to xenophobia. Tribalism/Racism/Xenophobia are all close brothers and sisters, infact sometimes i see no difference between them, no matter how we tend to define and differentiate them. Tribalism and Racism all have one underlying trait and that is hatred, hatred for your fellow humans, especially here in Nigeria . Sociologists might say a good number of Nigerians are tribalistic but not racist, but i see no real difference. Some people are so hypocritical that in public they would outrightly denounce tribalism and everything it stands for, but this same people in the absence of the public eye, would swear that their child/children would never marry anybody from a particular tribe .         ...

NIGERIANS AND THE "PHONEE" SYNDROME: FAKE ACCENT OR BI-DIALECTED

Image
Okay, one peculiar thing, i've noticed about Nigerians is the ease at which some of us switch in between accent. One moment we are speaking in our normal accent and the next moment we miraculously start speaking in a british accent, when you have never left the shores of Nigeria. Nigeirans who have stayed abroad for a while are also guilty of this, most of them hide under that fact that they have stayed abroad for some weeks or even a year and as such they have "naturally" picked up the foreign accent. But then i begin to wonder, majority of the foreigners living here in Nigeria still retain their home country's accent even after staying here for years.                       I have never believed that it is possible for an individual to naturally have two accent, its either one accent is natural to you and the other accent is learned or in other words fake. The use of this fake accent when speaking is w...

MY 2015 IN RETROSPECT

Image
So i just woke up this evening (new years eve) and i found out i haven't blogged for about 3 years now, its like i went on a blog detox. But here i am again, and this time i won't make any promises but i would simply just say i would try my very very best to be serious this time.      Okay so back to the topic, 2015 has indeed been a remarkable year for all of us. The events that took place, the decision we made or did not make, the risk we took or did not take, all these things have all in one way or the other shaped us into something different. For me, 2015 was one of the best and at the same time one of the worst. 2015 literally chewed me and spat me out ( obviously i don't mean literally, but you get the picture).     As i lay on my bed reminiscing, i can't help but to say one thing and that is "thank you God". Well I've got a question for you all, what has two thumbs and is now an Engineer ?. That's right you got it, th...

And the award for laziest blogger ever goes to...(drum roll please)...ME. Yep,i know i've not been posting anything here like forever, that's about to change (i hope), i plan on updating regularly from now. Its not like i don't try, the thing is anytime i try to blog ,i fall under the spell of sleep, its a real serious issue, its giving me sleepless night.    Ok back to today's topic, what's up with everybody wanting to be either a musician or a model. I mean every dude i meet is like mehn  i'm heading to the studio to record some dope track(and their voice be sounding worse than a roach..no offense), and they keep wondering why they ain't making it. Because your friend tells you that you have a good voice(obviously),doesn't mean you should record a whole track and terrorize the whole nation(no offense).  The worst are the rappers always talking about the haters(abeg make we hear word),i keep wondering till today who the haters are (no offense).I...

THE NOT SO FUN PART OF COLLEGE

Image
You know that annoying or should I say weird moment when things don't go as planned. Well today I'm going to be talking about life in colleg/university and what you should expect. This post is basically for the freshmen just joining the system. Before I got admission into school, I could still remember the late night reading, tutorials and all those extra work I had to do just to get admitted ( and believe me it was tiresome).           When I finally got admitted I was ecstatic, and I thought that now my flexing begins. This was actually due to a misconception I had about college/university, I thought it was going to be filled with fun, partying, and .....(You know what I mean) Well I blame this misconception to the numerous series films which I watched such as GREEK, which portrayed college as fun filled and interesting, the thrill of joining a fraternity/sorority (I'm not saying school is totally boring though), but what I saw and still seeing...
