CHRONICLES OF AN NYSC MEMBER"CORPER" PART 1

So, after being postponed like four freaking times, the National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) camp was eventually confirmed to hold on the 27th of April 2016. Alas, i could finally tell people who doubted if i actually did graduated, that i was off to camp. i'd already bought my things about 2 months before so i was fully prepared and eager to get to camp. In my mind i thought camp was going to be fun, filled with a lot of flexing and partying (at least that was what i was told) but my case was quite different from the assumed norm. Maybe it was just me because most of my co-corp members all said they had fun. It had to definitely be just me because i really didn't catch much fun in camp.

I resumed at the issele uku orientation camp in delta state, a day ahead of the official resumption date, guess i was too eager and so were many other people because i met a crowd of similar people all waiting to be addressed by the NYSC officials. I saw a lot of people at the gate, everyone socializing, interacting and all, except me. I guess this was were it all started, i suddenly didn't feel like socialising that much, i only talked to the people i travelled with to camp. Anyways, finally at about 5/6pm we were attended to and rooms were assigned to us, the next day was going to be the official start of camp.

The next day came and the ridiculous military drills came with it, as i couldn't understand why i would be told to carry all my luggage on my head and run from my room to the camp gate, only for me to carry those loads on my head back to my room again. I also didn't understand why i would be told to put my luggage on my head only to be told after 10seconds to drop them on the floor, then after some seconds again, told to carry to carry them back, this continued for almost 30mins. There were several other drills i found quite funny though, i guess those soldiers were just using us to catch fun. Also the sun in camp was crazy, freaking crazy, i literally changed complexion. Again we had to wake up by 3/4am everyday. All these activities made me hate camp. As early as the 3rd day of camp i started praying and counting down the day i would leave camp.
Because of the stress from the drills, the sun, the scarcity of water, the not so good food, the extremely early wake up time, i felt disinterested in other activities that were meant to be fun, such as the miss camp competition, miss pretty face and miss nysc.
Though to be a little bit honest the camp wasn't all bad, the camp (mammy) market was cool. You could find anything and everything at the mammy market, if you can't find it at the mammy market then it doesn't exist.
This post is already getting too long, i'll gist you more in my subsequent post.
